An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Manager at Smile Together Dental CIC, working within our finance team, to support our continuing business growth and development.

Reporting to our Finance Director, this position will suit someone who is well organised and highly accurate with attention to detail for timely production of the management accounts.

Responsibilities will include providing support to the Finance Director by managing the day-to-day accounting function including the finance team.

Our West Country Dental Care team provide urgent dental treatments for people who don’t have their own dentist, run out-of-hours surgeries and apply expert skills to treat children and adults with a range of special care needs alongside oral surgery, children’s orthodontics and treatments under general anaesthetic in a hospital setting. Under our Brighter Dental brand we provide competitively priced private dentistry from practices based in the heart of their communities, and we own a specialist dental laboratory DPS (Dental Prosthetic Solutions).

Job Title: Finance Manager

Salary: £40,000 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hours (full time)

Responsible and accountable to: Finance Director

Location: Truro, Cornwall

Role summary:

To provide support to the Finance Director by managing the day-to-day accounting function including the finance team. The role will be responsible for bank and pay reconciliations and the timely production of the management accounts.

The post holder’s responsibilities include:

  • Manage the finance team and function on a day-to-day basis – this will include setting team goals for each month end, setting and reviewing team member objectives and liaising with the Finance Director over the key objectives each month.
  • Bank: responsible for the cashflow of the organisation and ensuring that daily, weekly and monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts are carried out.
  • Month end: manage the month end procedures across the finance team. Ensure the management accounts are completed on a timely basis. Directly responsible for the profit and loss accounts for each Smile Together company including updating forecasts for review. Meet with individual budget holders and review their spending against budget.
  • Actively engage with Smile Together teams and participate in audit activities, planning and development sessions, and in-house meetings etc.
  • Be responsible for safe working and practice on a day-to-day basis, appropriate health, safety and security procedures within the work area, and report accidents, incidents and near misses using the Smile Together incident reporting procedure.

  • Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by the Finance Director and Smile Together Management Team.

Key accountabilities:

  • Budgets: lead on the yearly completion of the budget process, providing the budget drafts to the Finance Director for review.
  • Year end: lead on the preparation for audit, including the preparation of a full audit file for each company.
  • Payroll: coordinate the payroll functions for each company. Carry out monthly establishment monitoring for each company as well as all related pay and HMRC reconciliations.
  • Pension: work with the Head of HR to ensure the relevant pension scheme administration is completed monthly, along with all monthly reconciliations and payments.
  • Actively work with the management team to meet company objectives.
  • Take a key role in managing change and ensuring projects meet objectives on time and within agreed budgets, including creating or implementing a suitable method for assessing the success of the project/change.
  • Maintaining and developing your continuing professional/personal development according to agreed training needs via our Smile Together Training Academy.
  • Working alongside clinical and professional support colleagues in facilitating ongoing organisational change and development.
  • Working in our office in Truro, Cornwall.

Knowledge, Education, Training and Skills:

  • Minimum Grade C in GCSE Mathematics and English
  • CIMA/ACCA or ACA qualified
  • Minimum 5 years accounting experience, ideally in the commercial sector
  • Minimum 2 years supervising/managing a finance team or carrying out a role of a similar nature
  • Experience with reconciliations, payroll, pensions, budgets, audits and preparing management accounts

Working conditions:

  • It is expected that the post holder will be willing to receive appropriate ongoing training and professional/personal development

  • There will be occasions when travel to work in other locations will be required, with paid business mileage
